Muellner
The Most Patient Mule in Osweg
Overview
- Species: Mule
- Current Role: Cart-puller, pack animal, emotional constant
- Former Owner: [Zhellin]
- Known For: Endurance, tolerance, surviving bad decisions
Muellner is a mule of unremarkable appearance and remarkable perseverance. Once believed to belong to Zhellin, later revealed to be the property of the bandit known as Velek the Sly, Muellner has since passed—without consent—into the custody of the Sea Spray Survivors.
He has not objected.
Description
Muellner is gray-brown, long-eared, and stubborn in the way only animals that have seen too much can be. His eyes are dull but attentive, suggesting a creature that understands far more than it chooses to respond to.
He bears the marks of hard travel:
- Callused hooves
- Worn harness scars
- An expression of permanent resignation
He pulls the cart of Dragonglass without complaint, despite having every reason not to.
Temperament
Muellner is:
- Calm under pressure
- Unflappable in combat
- Nervous around snakes
- Patient to a fault
He does not panic easily, even when surrounded by danger, explosions, or shouting adventurers. When frightened, he freezes rather than bolts—an instinct that has likely saved several lives.
Notable Incidents
- Survived multiple snake attacks without breaking harness
- Endured proximity to dragonglass detonations
- Was renamed mid-journey without consultation
- Continues to pull the cart despite clear evidence this is a mistake
Symbolic Importance
To the party, Muellner represents:
- Relentless forward motion
- The cost of carrying dangerous cargo
- Innocence trapped in dangerous affairs
No one has yet asked what Muellner wants.
