King Richmond the XI

A distant crown whose will is felt everywhere, and whose face is rarely seen by anyone who matters.

What People Know

King Richmond the XI is the reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Valin, a ruler known more through decrees, proclamations, and consequences than personal presence. Few common folk—and very few adventurers—have ever seen him in person.

His authority is unquestioned.

His intentions are endlessly debated.

Reputation

  • Remote, controlled, and absolute

  • Seen as strong by supporters, dangerous by critics

  • Associated with order, stability, and fear

To most citizens, the King is less a man than a force.

Rule and Policy

Under Richmond’s reign:

  • Magic outside sanctioned clerical practice is forbidden

  • Elves are blamed for instability and corruption

  • The Elf Hunters were empowered and expanded

All of this is done in the name of security.

The King does not explain himself.

He does not need to.

Relationship to Power

Richmond rules through:

  • Appointed officials rather than personal appearances

  • Institutions that act in his name

  • Men like High Seeker Oliver Veylin

Those close to power claim the King listens carefully—but acts slowly, and only when convinced action is unavoidable.

Absence

King Richmond’s absence from public life is notable.

Some say he is ill.

Some say he is cautious.

Some say he is simply uninterested in being loved.

No one agrees.

No one asks publicly.

Rumors

  • The King knows more about magic than he admits

  • His silence is intentional, not passive

  • He is preparing for something that has not yet begun

Player Notes

King Richmond the XI has never spoken to the party.

Yet nearly every danger they face carries his signature.

If the King ever calls for them directly,

it will not be for gratitude.
