Fjord Hammerfall
“Steel doesn’t lie. People understand it wrong.”
What People Know
Fjord Hammerfall is the blacksmith of Strangeways, and by most accounts the largest man in town—in height, breadth, and reputation. If something needs to be repaired, reforged, or made to survive another beating, Fjord is the one people trust.
His forge rings from dawn until well past dusk, the steady rhythm of hammer on anvil as familiar to Strangeways as the mill wheel.
The Forge
-
A heavy stone-and-iron building near the market road
-
Always hot, always loud, always busy
-
Smells of coal smoke, hot metal, and oil
Weapons, armor, tools, hinges, nails—Fjord makes all of it. And he makes it to last.
Appearance
-
Enormous frame, thick arms corded with muscle
-
Burn scars and old nicks on his forearms
-
Beard kept short so it doesn’t catch fire
-
Wears a leather apron that has clearly stopped blades before
He looks like a man who could bend iron with his hands—and might have tried once.
Personality
-
Gruff but fair
-
Blunt to the point of rudeness, never cruel
-
Deeply practical
Fjord respects competence, not titles. Nobles get the same treatment as farmers—sometimes less patience.
Relationship to the Party
-
Has repaired Gideon’s shield and armor
-
Knows what real combat damage looks like
-
Treats adventurers with cautious respect
He doesn’t ask where dents come from. He can tell.
Values
-
Craft over coin
-
Strength earned, not claimed
-
Things should work when they’re needed most
He has little patience for politics, priests, or flashy magic—but he’ll quietly reinforce a blade if he thinks its owner will need it.
Reputation
-
“If Fjord says it’ll hold, it’ll hold.”
-
“The anvil’s survived three fires. Fjord survived all of them.”
-
“Don’t lie to him. He’ll know.”
Some say Fjord once fought in a war far from Strangeways. He has never confirmed it.
Player Notes
Fjord Hammerfall is not just a smith—he is a constant.
As long as his forge burns, Strangeways still stands.
