The Scholas Magick of Nokan

An elite arcane order that replaced curiosity with obedience, and scholarship with terror—turning magic into the sharpest instrument of the Infernal Empire.

Overview

The Scholas Magick of Nokan is the arcane backbone of the Infernal Empire. Once a prestigious magical academy in the old Republic of Nokan, it was reshaped—purged, reforged, and weaponized—after the rise of The Diabolus.

Today, the Scholas is not a school in any meaningful sense.

It is a state-controlled intelligence service, secret police, and magical weapons bureau rolled into one.

If the Infernal Empire knows something it should not, the Scholas discovered it.

If someone disappears, the Scholas approved it.

What People Know

Outsiders understand three things about the Scholas:

  1. Only zealots remain.

Independent thinkers were executed, exiled, or “reassigned” early in the Diabolus’ rise.

  2. They control the undead.

Scholas magi bind and direct ghoul legions remotely—then deliberately relinquish control, unleashing chaos as a weapon.

  3. They are hunting something ancient.

Whispered rumors speak of an artifact known as the Crown of Iron, whose fragments the Scholas actively seeks.

The Scholas does not debate policy.

It implements inevitability.

Structure & Organization

The Scholas is rigidly hierarchical and compartmentalized.

  • The Inner Conclave – Senior magi who answer directly to the Diabolus

  • Red Sigil Adepts – Field operatives, interrogators, and executioners

  • Necromantic Controllers – Specialists who direct undead forces

  • Scholars-Ink – Archivists and intelligence analysts

  • The Discarded – Failed initiates repurposed into experiments or undead thralls

No member knows more than they need.

No member is irreplaceable.

Methods & Tactics

  • Arcane surveillance and scrying networks

  • Controlled necromancy followed by deliberate loss of control

  • Psychological warfare and terror tactics

  • Artifact acquisition teams operating worldwide

  • Assassination masked as “arcane accidents”

Their signature weapons include silver blades of condensed infernal light, humming with restrained magic—deadly, precise, and unmistakably Scholas-made.

Goals

Public

  • Maintain magical order within the Infernal Empire

  • Eliminate unsanctioned magic

  • Protect the realm from “chaotic arcane threats”

Private

  • Reassemble the Crown of Iron

  • Monopolize all meaningful magic in the world

  • Ensure no power—mortal or divine—can oppose the Diabolus

The Scholas does not seek balance.

It seeks total control.

Headquarters

  • The Black Spire of Nokan – A towering arcane complex dominating the capital, sealed, warded, and visible for miles

Values

  • Obedience

  • Efficiency

  • Power through unity

Individual ambition is tolerated only when useful.

Anathema

  • Independent magic users

  • Magical secrecy outside Scholas control

  • Moral hesitation

  • Failure

Those who displease the Scholas are not punished.

They are reclassified.

Reputation

  • Feared even within the Infernal Empire

  • Hated by free mages and scholars worldwide

  • Studied cautiously by foreign powers desperate to understand them

The Scholas Magick is widely considered the most dangerous organization in the world—not because of its size, but because it has removed doubt from magic.

Player Notes

The Scholas Magick does not negotiate.

If they want something, they take it.

If they are watching you, assume they already know more than you think.

The Crown of Iron is not a rumor to them—it is a project.
